“The interdisciplinary dialogue between the sciences and music must necessarily lead to a more complete and detailed understanding of the effects of music. This will further improve our grasp of the significance of music for human development. We are learning more and more about the close physical and psychological bonds which connect mankind with one of its oldest and most variegated cultural creations. Contributions from musicology, biology, physics, medicine, chemistry, chronobiology, developmental psychology, education, linguistics, music therapy and mathematics combine to deepen our comprehension of this almost symbiotic relationship which joins us to music.
The art of tonality is, on the one hand, at home in both the concert hall and the rock arena – but equally it is a cultural asset which can be implemented for our social life, for bringing comfort, for educating our children, for healing physical and mental ailments, for extending and exploring our sensibility, for developing an appreciation of and an insight into other cultures. It is a subtle instrument which we exploit for our own government.”
Roland Haas, President of the I.M.A.R.A.A.
